Peer Support

Goal:
To assist mental health consumers in achieving recovery.

Locations: Available To:
  • North Towanda
  • South Waverly
  • Community
  • Adults
Description:
The Peer Support Services aids consumers in becoming more independent, locating resources needed to be independent, and achieving recovery.  Peer Support does not provide treatment, but rather a mentorship.  Peer Support services are provided by Certified Peer Specialists who are current or past mental health consumers that have been trained to use their past experiences to help others achieve recovery.

Services are provided to fit each individual's needs and are provided in the location that is required to achieve their goal.  For example, if getting out into the community is the goal set by the consumer, then the Certified Peer Specialist would spend time with them in the community.  The consumer's needs determine the amount of time spent together each week.  This could be once or several times per week.  Involvement in the program is voluntary; consumers decide if they want Peer Support services and have the right to stop the services at any time.
